Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said he hopes that supplies of Ukrainian cheese to the Russian market will resume soon.
"I hope that the fulfillment of all demands and the correction of all mistakes will help to resume exports of Ukrainian cheese to the Russian market soon," the minister told reporters in Kyiv on April 18.
He praised the fact that Russia had permitted imports of cheese produced by three Ukrainian cheese-makers after checks.
"Thee plants have been checked. These three plants produce 80% of our exports to Russia. And if Russia opens its market to us, this will be a positive signal. I hope this will happen soon," the minister said.
As reported, on April 17 Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Minister Petro Poroshenko stated that the so-called cheese war between Ukraine and Russia was over. He also noted that the resumption of supplies of Ukrainian cheese to Russia would reduce the deficit of the bilateral trade balance.
Three Ukrainian cheese makers, which have been checked by Rospotrebnadzor experts, including Hadiachsyr, Mensky Cheese, and Pyriatyn will resume cheese supplies to Russia.
As reported, on February 7, 2012, Russia banned imports of cheese made by some of Ukrainian producers to that country due to a lack of compliance of their products with the Russian technical regulations regarding milk and dairy foods.
