You're reading: Ukrainian interior minister slams Russia for reluctance to cooperate in finding Yanukovych

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said that Russia is violating an agreement as part of the interstate wanted list and is not cooperating with the Ukrainian side in the issue of finding former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

“We have formalized all procedures and filed an application to the Russian Interior Ministry to ensure that Yanukovych was put on the international wanted list in the CIS. Despite all our requests and expired terms, last time the Russian Interior Ministry told us that the documents were to be signed by the leadership, and the issue is not currently being resolved,” he told reporters in Kyiv on March 28.

“Thus, Russia is violating all established procedures in terms of finding a criminal who is wanted under an agreement as part of the interstate wanted list,” he said.

Avakov said that Russia also did not want to cooperate in finding other Ukrainian criminals.

He also said that Yanukovych had no right to give advice to the Ukrainian people.

“He must come here and give his advice from a prison cell,” he added.
