A Ukrainian General Staff official has said the Ukrainian military adhered to the observance of the Minsk agreements, on the situation in eastern Ukraine, on Jan. 12.

“The anti-terrorist forces are closely observing the Minsk protocol and memorandum,” Vladyslav Selezniov, acting speaker of the Ukrainian General Staff, told Interfax on Jan. 12 in response to a request for a comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement that the Ukrainian military are preparing to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine by force.

Selezniov said the measures restricting travel in the conflict area are aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens in eastern Ukraine.

He said Ukraine is registering “an exacerbation of the conflict between various militarized groups on the territory of the so-called DPR and LPR, as a result of which civilians are getting hurt.”

“We also have information from the OSCE special monitoring mission on the increase of the number of attacks on the anti-terrorist operation forces and civilians by the illegal armed formations,” Selezniov said.

The Russian foreign minister earlier said Russia has information that the Ukrainian military are preparing an attempt to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine by force.
