Brussels – Members of the Batkivschyna faction in Ukraine's parliament Oleksandr Bryhynets and Andriy Pavlovsky together with other activists rallied outside the building of the European Commission and the European Council before the start of the Ukraine-EU Summit in Brussels urging the Ukrainian authorities to respect democratic standards.

The rally was held at an instruction of the Batkivschyna party’s leadership simultaneously with similar rallies in Kyiv, Bryhynets’ press service said.

“Our action attempts to draw the attention of Europeans to the problems of democracy and the selective use of justice in Ukraine. We picketed the European Commission and the European Council with banners reading ‘Ukrainians share European values’ and ‘Free Yulia!'” the lawmaker said.

According to him, these banners attracted the attention of local residents, who stopped to examine the placards, took pictures of the protesters, were honking their car horns and shouting words of encouragement.

According to Bryhynets, the protesters were not allowed to continue the rally near the headquarters of the Council of Europe, as it was not registered.

Brussels is hosting the EU- Ukraine summit on Monday.
