You're reading: Ukrainian Security Council secretary blames Russia for trying to ‘explode situation’ in Ukraine from within

Russia is continuing to act to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said.

“After Russia failed to break through the Ukrainian defense lines in the eastern part of the country, it focused on attempts to explode the situation in Ukraine from the inside. Russia is providing informational and other support to radical organizations with the aim of destabilizing the situation in Ukraine,” Turchynov said at a meeting with a US delegation led by Senator Jack Reed.

“Ukrainian special services have tracked injections of information from Russian IP addresses to social networks, calling for overthrowing the government under the guise of members of radical forces and Ukrainian military servicemen,” Turchynov said.

He called on the US “not to slacken the pressure on Russia.”

Turchynov also thanked US officials for close cooperation in reforming the Ukrainian security and armed forces, noting that “the only unsolved problem is military-technological cooperation and the unblocking of supplies of lethal weapons to us.”

Reed praised the level of training of Ukrainian military servicemen as he saw it during the Sea Breeze joint exercises in Odesa.

The US is interested in continuing cooperation so that Ukraine can defend its way of life and civilizational choice, he said.
