National energy company Ukrenergo has announced an auction on Nov. 12, 2013, for access to the Ukrainian power grid to export electricity from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31, 2013, according to an announcement posted on the company's Web site.

The company said that the access to 4,055 megawatts of electricity for export in four directions is split into 22 unequal lots.

Two lots of 155 MW of electricity for export to Slovakia, Hungary and Romania (the Burshtyn Energy Island) are to be sold at the auction.

Five lots with a total capacity of 350 MW of electricity for export to Moldova are to be sold at the auction.

Four lots with a total capacity of 400 MW of electricity for export to Belarus are to be offered for sale.

Access to 3,150 megawatts of electricity for export to Russia is divided into 11 lots.

Bids can be submitted no later than at 16:00 on November 11, 2013. The auction will be held at 16:00 on October 12, 2013.

At an auction for access to the Ukrainian power grid to export electricity from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2013, held on Dec. 21, 2012, DTEK – Ukraine’s largest vertically integrated energy holding – bought all lots at the initial price due to the absence of other bidders.

Ukraine boosted electricity exports by 51.5% or 3.312 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2012 year-over-year, to 9.745 billion kWh. The main exporter of Ukrainian electricity since 2011 has been DTEK energy holding company.

DTEK buys electricity on the wholesale market under government’s decisions to export it at the wholesale market price, not taking into account subsidy certificates.

Ukrenergo operates Ukraine’s backbone and interstate transmission lines, as well as supervising the country’s national grid. It is a state-owned company and is controlled by the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry.
