Public joint-stock company Ukrzaliznytsia plans to use the same number of passenger carriages as in 2015 and upgrade its rolling stock in 2016.
“Our financial plan includes the modernization of rolling stock in
2016. We plan to overhaul 232 passenger wagons in our passenger depots
and wagon repair plans. We will deeply modernize 16 electric trains,
which will comply with the Regional Express type,” acting deputy
director general of Ukrzaliznytsia Ihor Breus said.
He said that this will attract passengers who would have used road transportation and will also boost passenger flow.
Breus said that deterioration rate of rolling stock today is over 85 percent for long-haul trains and 90 percent for suburban trains.
