Ukrainian railways in January-September 2015 repaired and overhauled 3,470 grain wagons, of which 3,442 cars were repaired at depots and 28 wagons were overhauled.

According to the press service of State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia, it was previously planned to repair 3,057 cars.

“Experts note that the working fleet of grain wagons since the beginning of 2015 has considerably increased due to the increase in scheduled repairs, reducing the number of long stock wagons through technical diagnostics and repairs of cars with an expired service life, as well as by reducing the burden on the rolling stock deficit for transportation outside Ukraine,” reads the report.

As of early October, the fleet of grain wagons owned by Ukrainian railroads and the Ukrzaliznytsia companies was 11,684 units, of which 11,000 cars (94 percent) were used in freight shipping.

“This amount of grain wagons is enough to transport 3.5 million tonnes of grain per month and more than 42 million tonnes per year: today the grain wagon fleet meets the needs for grain transportation in full,” the company said.
