You're reading: Ukrzaliznytsia to spend Hr 73 million on reconstructing 12 railway stations this year

The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) will this year spend Hr 73.4 million on reconstructing six railway stations and six railway station complexes, state railway administration Ukrzaliznytsia's press service has reported. 

The press service said that in 2011, the railways spent over UAH 123 million of their own funds on the repair and reconstruction of buildings and facilities in the passenger rail transportation sector. Six railway stations and eight railway station complexes were reconstructed.

The press service said that in 2012, work at the major part of facilities located on the routes of the high-speed train services linkingUkrainian cities that hosted the Euro 2012 European football championship were finished before the start of the tournament, and work at the rest of the facilities will be finished by the end of the year.

The largest volume of work was carried out by Ukrzaliznytsia at the Donetsk railway station complex, which after reconstruction can service over 35,000 passengers per day. The updated complex includes a transit and suburban stations, large and small concourses, two retail complexes, a bus stop and the main building of the station, which was fully modernized.

In addition, at present, the station in Sloviansk is being reconstructed. All deteriorated equipment will have modern replacements in full – from the heating systems, lighting, and air conditioning, to windows and doors. Temporary ticket offices and a waiting room will be set up for passengers for the period of reconstruction.

The reconstruction will be finished by late October and the capacity of the station will increase to 10,200 people per day.
