The General Assembly of the United Nations will consider the situation in Crimea on March 27, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN Yuriy Serheyev has said.

“The General Assembly will meet next Thursday, March 27 at our
request. Conflict prevention will be included on its agenda,” the
diplomat said during an interview with the Obozrevatel Internet
publication.

According to Serheyev, before turning to sittings at a higher level,
in particular to the General Assembly, all of the required the steps in
the United Nations Security Council have to be gone through.

“In particular, one such step was the attempt to adopt the Crimean
resolution during last session. Eventually Russia vetoed it, which in
turn opened the door to the General Assembly for us,” Serheyev said.

According to him, the Ukrainian party is preparing for the session
and counts on its partners’ support. He added that thee General Assembly
could adopt a resolution regardless of Russia’s position.

“According to protocol, a resolution can be adopted by a relative
majority of those present at the session and participating in the vote,”
Serheyev said.
