You're reading: United opposition files lawsuit against Yanukovych at Higher Administrative Court

The Batkivschyna United Opposition has filed a lawsuit at the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine against Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. 

According to Batkivschyna’s press service, the leaders of the united opposition, Oleksandr Turchynov and Arseniy Yatseniuk, asked the court to consider the lawsuit and summon Yanukovych for an interrogation “on crimes he has committed.”

The opposition leaders said that 500,000 Ukrainians had joined the lawsuit against the president of Ukraine.

During a briefing, Yatseniuk said that the Higher Administrative Court ruled that the plaintiff has to explain additionally what exactly are the infringements of the constitution and the law of Ukraine Yanukovych committed.

“We explained to the court the whole list of crimes committed by the incumbent president against Ukraine,” Yatseniuk said.

As reported, earlier Yatseniuk said that the united opposition was planning to sue Yanukovych for his crimes.

Yatseniuk specified that Yanukovych violated the Constitution of Ukraine by illegally signing the laws on pension reform, on the Tax Code, and on languages. In addition, according to the opposition, the president illegally appointed the prime minister and the government, as well as illegally oppressed judges of the Constitution Court to force them to return to force the old version of the Constitution of Ukraine.
