You're reading: US diplomats going to Donetsk to attend hearing of Savchenko case

American diplomats will observe the hearing of the Nadia Savchenko case in Donetsk.

We can confirm that diplomats from the U.S. embassy in Moscow are joining the group with other foreign diplomats to monitor the hearings in Donetsk. We’d like to note that Nadia Savchenko shouldn’t be subject to investigation. She’s kept as a prisoner after being kidnapped by Russia-backed separatists and illegally taken across the Ukrainian border, Press Secretary of the U.S. embassy in Moscow William Stevens told Interfax.

The U.S. urges Russia to stop ungrounded court procedures and release Savchenko along with other illegally held Ukrainian prisoners at once, as Russia agreed to do when it signed the Minsk agreements, Stevens said.
