“This resolution was adopted unanimously at an open vote in the Senate. This is a standard procedure used for the consideration of the issues on which there is a coordinated, unambiguous view of the majority. All the rules and procedures in this case were observed,” Durbin said in a comment sent to the ZN.UA by his press service.
The senator said he understands that the Ukrainian authorities are not happy about the adoption of such a resolution. However, the Senate unanimously condemned Tymoshenko’s imprisonment for political reasons, he added.
In addition, the resolution was prepared for several months. According to the senator, all the agencies were informed that the Senate intended to address this issue so that they could submit their comments and objections. The resolution was previously discussed at a public meeting of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and was supported by the committee. The allegations that there were some violations of the procedure are absolutely ungrounded, Durbin stressed.
