Lviv - One U.S. national and a Ukrainian woman were killed as a result of the collapse of a ceiling during the repair of a building in the center of Lviv, the public liaisons department of the regional department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the police, another man injured in the collapse was also a citizen of the United States.
The press service of Lviv City Council said that the repairs in the apartment owned by the religious department of the United Methodist Church of Ukraine had not been approved. In particular, neither Halytska District State Administration nor the architecture department had issued relevant permits.
According to the city authorities, members of the religious organization carried out the repairs on their own, and professional builders did not take part in the operations.
The ceiling in an apartment on the fourth floor of a building at 8 Sichovykh Striltsiv Street in the center of Lviv collapsed on Tuesday, at around 1230. Two people were killed and another hospitalized with injuries as a result of the accident.
