You're reading: VAT account system operating as normal

The electronic administration of value added tax (VAT) system (VAT accounts) is operating as normal, Chairman of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov has said.

“I can say for sure that the system is operating in the usual regime,” he told reporters at a press conference on July 15.

He said that as of June 15, 2015, 8.7-8.8 million of VAT invoices had been registered in the system, while around 20 million VAT invoices are registered every month.

Nasirov said that under Ukrainian law, fiscal agencies have not applied fines to taxpayers who failed to follow the procedures during work with VAT accounts until July 15.

As reported, electronic VAT administration (VAT accounts) was introduced in Ukraine in the end of Dec. 2014 as part of tax reform. VAT accounts were introduced from Feb. 1, 2015 under a trial period and since July 1 the accounts have operated on a permanent basis.

The introduction of VAT accounts caused some businesspeople to protest. Some lawmakers submitted a draft law on the extension of the VAT administration system trial period, from July 1, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016.
