The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has rejected parliamentary chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn's resignation.

A total of 266 lawmakers voted for a relevant draft instruction at a special session of the Verkhovna Rada on Monday, July 30.

The deputies confirmed their confidence in the speaker in the same document.

As reported, Lytvyn and Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Mykola
Tomenko rendered their resignations on July 4, after the Verkhovna Rada
voted for the bill on the principles of the state language policy on
July 3.

The parliament refused to hear Lytvyn’s resignation on July 6, when its regular session ended.

In turn, Lytvyn refused to sign the language bill.

Lytvyn has held the speaker’s position twice, from May 28, 2002 through April 26, 2006, and from December 9, 2008 until now.
