Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister for energy and industry Yuriy Boiko and European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht have discussed a possible review by Ukraine of its tariff commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the introduction of vehicle recycling tax in Ukraine.

The meeting took place in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday, the government’s press service reported.

“On the agenda was the discussion of a possible review by Ukraine of
tariff concessions stipulated in the Schedules of Concessions and
Commitments by Ukraine to the World Trade Organization according to GATT
Article XVIII. Boiko and Gucht also addressed issues of bilateral
cooperation in trade, in particular, the implementation by Ukraine of
safeguard measures for vehicle imports and the introduction of vehicle
recycling tax,” the report reads.

The sides also expressed satisfaction with technical preparations for
signing the text of the Free Trade Area (FTA) section of the
Association Agreement.

In addition, they confirmed readiness to start an informal dialogue on business climate issues.

“Boiko also briefed the European side on progress in the
implementation of social and economic reform in Ukraine and highlighted
the new [Ukrainian] government’s priorities for 2013,” the report says.
