Moscow - Russia does "not want war" with Ukraine and sees no reason to interpret the situation in this country in such terms, Moscow's ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said.

In response to a question from Ukraine’s acting Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, Churkin said that “Russians do not want war, and I am convinced that Ukrainians do not want it either.”

Addressing the UN Security Council’s meeting on Ukraine, Churkin also said: “Furthermore, we do not see any prerequisites to interpret the situation in such terms.”

“We do not want any further exacerbation of the situation. It was not Russia that unraveled this spiral of destabilization and violence that has been determining the situation in Ukraine in the past few months,” Churkin said.
