Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated newly elected Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti on his victory at the polls.
The press service of the Ukrainian president said Yanukovych congratulated Timofti during a phone conversation between them on March 16.
During the conversation, the Ukrainian head of state said he hopes that relations between Ukraine and Moldova will develop more intensively for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.
Yanukovych added that joint efforts would be directed at further strengthening the bilateral political dialogue, intensifying trade and economic partnership, and improving cultural and humanitarian relations.
Yanukovych also invited Timofti to make an official visit to Ukraine.
