Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has demanded that the Prosecutor General's Office and the Cabinet of Ministers bring order to the sphere of the provision of administrative services by government agencies.

At a meeting of the Committee on Economic Reforms in Kyiv on Friday, Yanukovych addressed Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka: "We will now demand that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Cabinet of Ministers make a thorough analysis. Please, work [and find out] who is promoting this system now… who is opposing it, and when we will finally find civilized solutions that are convenient for people."

He noted the increasing commercialization of this sector. He reminded Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, who also attended the meeting, of the government’s order to reduce the number of administrative services.

Yanukovych told Azarov: "The authorities handed over to private entities the implementation of a significant number of powers assigned to them. Mykola Yanovych [Azarov], I’m waiting for you to answer this question I posed at the beginning of this year: When will we stop financing with public funds enterprises created by various departments for the provision of administrative services? We need to say openly that most of them are conducting corrupt activities."

Azarov, in turn, noted that under a government decision, such intermediary organizations at government agencies had been disbanded since January 1, 2011.

"Therefore, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Security Service, please, check. And we will also check," Azarov said.

Yanukovych said that the issue of bringing order to the sphere of the provision of administrative services would be resolved at the legislative level.
