Integration into Europe remains a priority of Ukraine's foreign policy, President Viktor Yanukovych said.
This goal is supported by a number of national laws, including the
law on the country’s domestic and foreign policy, he said at a press
conference after a session of the Russian-Ukrainian Interstate
Commission.
“Ukraine has defined integration into Europe as its priority,” the president said.
Yanukovych described his 2012 State of the Nation Address as a strategic document.
“Everything mentioned there represents a policy that comes as a
natural consistent follow-up to the policy started by us in 2010,” he
said.
Among other topics, the commission’s session addressed ways to
promote Ukraine’s dialogue with the G20 in light of Russia’s upcoming
presidency of this organization, the president said.
“Since the Russian Federation prepares to take over the presidency of
this group at the end of the year, we discussed ways to develop
Ukraine’s dialogue with this influential interstate forum. We count on
your support, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Russian President Vladimir
Putin],” he said.
