Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called on young software engineers to work more actively in Ukraine, notably take part in big national IT projects.

“I am calling on all young software engineers present here to think on the implementation of big national IT projects that could become Ukraine’s landmark. For examples, you could develop a powerful national search system. Actually Google was also invented by very young people,” the head of state said at the All-Ukrainian Youth Forum in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The president noted that today young Ukrainians often move away from their country and develop “careers for export.” He added that young people involved in the IT sphere are one of such examples and stressed that the level of training of programmers in Ukraine is very high.

“Nevertheless, the majority of trained specialists migrate, and those who stay work for foreign companies. The strong IT sphere has not become a full part of Ukraine’s economy,” Yanukovych said.

He added that Ukraine also insufficiently uses the potential of business incubators and technology parks at universities, especially those specializing in technology and IT.
