You're reading: Yanukovych signs law on new classification of roads of general use

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed the law on the new classification of roads of general use approved by the parliament, the press service of the president reported on Jan.10.

On Dec. 20, 2011 the Verkhovna Rada amended the law on automobile roads regarding the classification of roads of general use.

A total of 266 of the 321 MPs registered in the sitting hall voted for the amendments to Article 8 of the law of Ukraine on automobile roads.

According to the law, territorial roads are now classified as state automobile roads (under the current legislation, such roads are considered to be local automobile roads).

The law also stipulates the procedure for making a list of state automobile roads and reads that the Cabinet of Ministers will approve the list submitted by the central executive agency.

The law also regulates the procedure of approving the list of local automobile roads and reads that the Council of Ministers of Crimea and regional state administrations will approve the list once every three years.
