Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law under which regional gas supply companies can restrict gas supplies to heat generating companies that run up debts, including during the heating season.

According to the document, the safe minimum is an amount of natural gas sufficient for the nominal accident-free operation of an enterprise.

According to the government, the adoption of the bill will improve payment discipline and simplify the payments for imported gas by the state.

Earlier, Ukrainian law forbade restricting gas supplies to heat energy generating companies during the heating season.

As reported, the Ukrainian parliament passed a bill under which regional gas supply companies can restrict gas supplies to heat generating companies that have debts, including ones run up during the heating season, with 233 supporting votes on Dec. 22, 2011.
