Ukraine's experience in the development of peaceful and stable international relations could be used in world practice, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
“Ukraine’s experience is important in the modern global context,
first of all, as an example of peaceful and stable development of
international relations and avoiding ethnic and religious conflicts in
the period of the establishment of a state system,” the president said
while opening the International Summit for Protection of National
Minorities “Ukraine’s Experience for the World” in Kyiv on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
The president said Ukraine has the necessary conditions for development of cultural variety for all nations without exceptions.
“Today cultural variety is a real value of the Ukrainian society, a
ticket to its unity, a barrier to development of xenophobia and
extremism, which are becoming more and more widespread phenomena in
various part of the world today,” Yanukovych said.
According to the president, the world often faces new security
challenges, particularly active development of radical and extremist
movements, and strengthening of tension in relations between ethnic and
religious groups.
“Despite the positive dynamics of the previous years, from time to
time we face the cases of xenophobia. Such conflicts often have local
character, but we should be watchful. The growth of migration and
development of radical ideologies, as well as politicization can at any
moment turn a small local conflict into serious danger. We understand
this and we are actively working to prevent such scenarios,” Yanukovych
said.
