Ukraine will continue developing its foreign policy based on the principle of national pragmatism, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview for "Evenings with Vitaliy Korotych" TV Program aired on Ukraine's First National TV Channel on Sunday.

"We respect our partners, but our national interest is always at the heart of relations… We must not allow our interests to be ignored. We should work with our partners so that these relations be based on mutual respect," Yanukovych said.

The president noted the importance of "economization" of Ukraine’s foreign policy and in this context the further deepening of bilateral cooperation with its partners in the world.

"I see no other way today than the activation of bilateral relations… If this policy is successful, if it is aimed at economic growth, this will be a boon for people who live in our country. We are well aware of this," Yanukovych said.
