Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has vetoed the Ukrainian law on amendments to the law on local government in Ukraine, which was adopted by parliament on Dec. 9, 2011.

A statement posted on the Web site of the head of state on Tuesday says that the law envisaged the cancellation of the requirement for local government agencies to take into account during their regulatory activities the provisions of the law on the principles of state regulatory policy in the sphere of economic activity.

"Practice shows that the regulatory acts of local government agencies currently do not always meet the established requirements. According to statistics, of the 58,000 cancelled regulatory acts of local government agencies, more than 35,000 were cancelled on the basis of their non-compliance with the principles of state regulatory policy," reads the statement.

According to the president, the cancellation of these requirements will lead to the destruction of a single transparent model of adopting acts and will not help improve the policy of deregulation and the simplification of business at the state and regional levels, which is a priority task for the development of entrepreneurship and the creation of favorable conditions for attracting investors.
