SEVASTOPOL – Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has promised to agree with the Russian leadership on the development of joint social and economic policy in Sevastopol. He said this at a meeting with officials in Sevastopol on Tuesday, August 14.

“I think it would be fair enough to agree with our Russian colleagues
on the development of joint socio-economic policy in this city, I mean
in particular allowance of sailors,” Yanukovych said.

According to the president, the fleets of Ukraine and Russia are building relations for normal coexistence.

“Tell me, do Sevastopol residents divide people into friends and
foes? No, they don’t and they won’t. And when they ask, for instance,
how much Ukrainian sailors should earn, the answer is simple – Ukrainian
and Russian sailors should have equal wages. And if we doubled wages of
our [Ukrainian] sailors this year, is this good or bad? This is very
good, but not enough,” the president said.
