You're reading: Yatseniuk: EU financial aid to Ukraine to reach $15 billion (UPDATED)

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that the total amount of the EU's macro-financial assistance to Ukraine will reach $15 billion.

“In this package the total amount of financial and economic assistance is $15 billion,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

He said that in the near future Ukraine would receive macro-financial assistance of $2 billion.

“This is EUR 1.6 billion, or $2 billion. This is the macro-financial assistance that will help conduct reforms in Ukraine and stabilize the economic situation,” he said.

When asked to comment on Ukraine’s obligations under this financial aid, Yatseniuk said: “As for macro-financial assistance from the member states of the European Union, in fact, the amount of $2 billion is non-repayable grant assistance.”

When asked about Ukraine’s commitments on further tranches, he said: “Let’s first take two billion [dollars] and then the rest. There’s no need to hurry.”

Yatseniuk said that a separate clause in the financial aid package was “significant investment in the Ukrainian economy.”
