Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn is planning to resign, Leader of the Front for Change Party Arseniy Yatseniuk has said at a rally to protect Ukrainian language in front of the Ukrainian House on July 4.
“Lytvyn is planning to resign and he will do this, unless [Ukrainian
President Viktor] Yanukovych oppresses him,” Yatseniuk said.
As reported, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, on July 3
passed the bill on the basis of state language policy, which
significantly expands the sphere of use of Russian language, by 248
The parliamentary opposition stated that the language bill was passed with many violations.
Around 700 gathered near the Ukrainian House in Kyiv lead by the
Batkivschyna Party and the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union to protest
against the adoption of the document. Scuffles occurred between the
protesters and Berkut special police officers on July 3 at night.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will hold a press conference at the Ukrainian House on July 4 at 11.00 a.m.
As of 9.00 a.m. on July 4, there were around 700 protesters and lawmakers
