Ukraine will join the European Economic Area, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said.

“We have a two-way street… I once again want to emphasize that the agreement on the free trade area will enter into force on Jan. 1. Like it or not, Ukraine will be part of the European Economic Area without any doubt,” Yatsenyuk said at the opening of the Ukrainian-German Economic Forum in Berlin on Oct. 23.

According to him, the agreement will modernize the Ukrainian economy.

“I do not want the Ukrainian economy to continue to be resource-based. We need to have the same standards and criteria, and the quality of products, as in Germany,” Yatsenyuk said.
