Ukraine's State Protection Directorate has reported that its officers in charge of ensuring the personal security of the foreign ministers of France, Germany and Poland during their visit to Kyiv were attacked by radical activists.

The directorate said in a statement on Friday that radical protesters captured and beat the officers after mistaking them for provocateurs.

The directorate asked opposition leaders to help persuade the activists to free the officers.

“We are asking you to help secure the officers’ release in order to avoid any misunderstandings with Europe’s ambassadors, prevent an international scandal and allow these officers to continue to fulfill their duties,” it said.
