You're reading: Yefremov: Question of elections in Kyiv leaves legal field

The question of holding elections in Kyiv has left the legal field, the leader of the Party of Regions faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov, has said.

“We’ve left the legal field in resolving this issue. And when the head of the concerned committee today reports that we have to schedule regular elections, I immediately have the question: what regular elections? Our mayor resigned, so the elections must be extraordinary. The elections of deputies must be regular. When you start looking at this situation with lawyers, you understand that the number of lawyers corresponds to the number of points of view,” the party’s press service quoted him as saying at a press briefing on Monday.

Yefremov also said: “In order to make a decision that will be observed by everyone, we need clarification from a qualified body, which cannot be challenged by anybody. This is the Constitutional Court.”

He said that the Verkhovna Rada had already appealed to the Constitutional Court with the request to clarify the situation.

“We’ll vote on the elections depending on how the Constitutional Court interprets this issue,” Yefremov said.
