Russia and Ukraine will not have another "gas war," Leader of the Regions Party parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov has said.
"There will be no war," he said in an interview on Ukrainian television's Channel 5, which was aired on Wednesday, September 7.
According to the MP, the leadership of the state promised to follow the law and not to block gas supplies to Europe.
"[Our] European partners should be confident that Ukraine is a reliable partner in this sphere, and we sent respective signals to the Russian Federation," Yefremov said.
He also said that under the 2009 contract on gas supplies, the price of gas for Ukraine would be $564 per 1,000 cubic meters.
"You know that in Q4 this year, according to the formula signed by [Russian Premier Vladimir] Putin and [Ukraine’s ex-Premier Yulia] Tymoshenko, Ukraine will pay $564 for gas… They don’t pay such a price even in Germany… I don’t understand how a leader could sign a contract that envisages a 300% penalty," he said.
