Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) switched its fourth to the standby mode on Thursday evening until May 10 in connection with the restrictions by Ukrainian National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom, the NPP reported on Friday morning.
“At 22:00 on May 5, 2016, power unit No. 4 was switched to the standby mode in connections with Energoatom’s restrictions on power production (until 06:00 on May 10, 2016),” the company said.
According to the report, the power of the reactor is 2% of its nominal power.
Zaporizhia NPP reactors Nos. 1 and 3 are undergoing major overhaul until May 25 and July 5, respectively. Reactor No. 2 is under repairs until May 28, 2016.
Zaporizhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe by its rated capacity. Its six VVER-1000 reactor units were built by the Soviet project V-320. The first reactor unit was started up in December 1984 and the sixth in October 1995.
Energoatom is the operator of all four nuclear power plants currently working in Ukraine: the Zaporizhia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Rivne and Khmelnytsky power plants with 15 pressurized light water reactors and a total rated capacity of 13.835 gigawatts.
