You're reading: Peskov: White Book may be evidence of human rights violations in Ukraine for lawsuits

The Kremlin believes the White Book on massive human rights violations in Ukraine written by the Russian Foreign Ministry may become a foundation for lawsuits filed with international courts.

“It [the White Book] may seriously help with this work, at a
minimum,” Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov told
Interfax.

At the same time, Peskov would not say whether Russia can file
lawsuits with international courts such as the European Court of Human
Rights and the International Criminal Court in The Hague on the basis of
the facts stated in the White Book.

The Kremlin reported earlier on Monday that a report on human rights
violations in Ukraine, called the White Book, had been presented to the
Russian president. It contains numerous facts of human rights violations
in Ukraine in the period between late November 2013 and late March
2014, the report says.

“The factual information stated in the report makes it possible to
say that major violations of the fundamental principles and norms in the
sphere of human rights have become massive in Ukraine,” the Kremlin
reported on its site.
