You're reading: Reagan and Thatcher advisor now to counsel Jaresko with tackling tax reforms

As Finance Minister Nataliya Jaresko is battling with Ukraine's muddled tax system which was abused over the past two decades by tax authorities and officials, famous economist Arthur Laffer has been taken on board as one of her advisors.

The team of well known international experts
that advise the Ministry of Finances was joined by American economist Arthur
Laffer,” wrote the Ministry of Finance on its website.

“With the goal to use the best international
experience in the realization of reforms and to stimulate investments, economic
growth and the creation of new jobs, the Finance Ministry is continuing to draw
more famous international experts for cooperation,” the finance ministry wrote.
The list already includes former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of
Slovakia Ivan Miklos, international economists and experts Robert Conrad and
Chris Wales.

Known for his Laffer Curve and “supply-side
economics” contributions to the study of economics, Laffer has been an advisor
to U.S. President Ronald Reagan as well as Great Britain Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher. He received his doctorate from Stanford
University and bachelor’s of science from Yale University.

Laffer is also the
founder and chairman of Laffer Associates and Laffer Investments, an investment
research and consulting firm. He recently supported Jaresko’s proposed tax
changes in Ukraine that would generally lower tax rates leveling them all at 20
percent.
