A Ukrainian startup has become a partner of international movie making giant Universal Studios.

Universal and Ukrainian pet-monitoring device developer Petcube are to cross-promote each other in the latest comedy animation “The Secret Life of Pets” by the U.S. film studio.

Petcube would not disclose any detailed information on the agreement.

The partnership deal will operate in European and Asia-Pacific countries.

Reportedly, the deal came about as a result of Petcube’s work with Illumination Entertainment – a subsidiary of Universal Studios.

Illumination Entertainment created hit movies like Despicable Me, The Lorax, and Minions, with budgets from $69 million to $74 million.

“Such an agreement requires not just a lot of time and effort, but also determination that you will make it happen,” Petcube CEO Yaroslav Azhnyuk told AIN.UA in a Skype call on June 21. “We found a way to contact the studio, and as soon as they got to know about us, they liked the idea: …this is a direct hit on their target audience, it’s like we were created for each other.”

According to Azhnyuk, to enter into a deal like this, a company must have a great product and a professional team that has experience in working under such agreements, which Azhnyuk said his company has.

According to U.S. weekly entertainment trade magazine Variety, ads placed for the animated film had an estimated media value of $6.17 million through June 19 alone, for 1,231 national ad airings across 43 networks.
