Serhiy Aksionov, who was appointed chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Supreme Council of Crimea, said the total number of members of the self-defense units in Crimea reached 11,000 people.

“The total number of members of self-defense units now reached 11,000 people. They use defensive tools such as shields and sticks. Many people have weapons, which are legally registered to them,” he told a press conference in Simferopol on Tuesday.

“People are ready to stand up to defend the autonomous republic, but not against internal enemies. We don’t have them. I am absolutely confident that we will not have conflicts with military units,” he said.

Aksionov said self-defense units control all entrances and exists to Crimea.
