The United States could increase the economic pressure on Russia if the Minsk agreements over the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis are disrupted, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey R. Pyatt said.

If Russia fails to honor the obligations it assumed by signing the Minsk accords, the U.S. will increase the price of Russia’s failings, he told Interfax-Ukraine on April 16 when asked whether there is a Plan B in the event of disruption of the Minsk accord.

The ambassador also said that the U.S. and the EU are doing all they can to ensure the Minsk accords are implement and to stop the Russian aggression.

The war in eastern Ukraine must not be a reason for delaying economic reforms in Ukraine, he said.

Luhansk and Donetsk militants are occupying just under 3 percent of Ukraine’s territory, this small area should not thwart Ukraine’s further movement towards reforms and progress, Pyatt said.
