Two Russian soldiers were detained in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in Donbas on Wednesday suspected of trying to shoot down Ukrainian aircraft, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

“In the ATO area, during an operation on fighting terrorists, fighters of the Luhansk-1 battalion detained two servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, who are suspected of using man-portable air defense systems against the aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” he said at a briefing on Sept. 10.

He said that law enforcement officers, SBU officers and border guards were checking persons who have been forced to flee the ATO zone and settle in other regions of Ukraine, regarding their possible involvement in the activities of terrorist organizations.

“Two dozen wounded militants of the LPR and DPR terrorist organizations were found in the village of Novopetrivka (Berdiansk district, Zaporizhia region), where the largest number of migrants from the ATO area was recorded,” Lysenko said.

He added that SBU employees had detained an informer of terrorists who was collecting information on the deployment of the military units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the National Guard.
