Dnipropetrovsk - The defense councils of the regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia held a joint meeting on Aug. 28 at which they approved a plan to recruit volunteers to defend the two Ukrainian regions.

The authorities “want the region to be ready if a special period is declared in the country,” Dnipropetrovsk governor Sviatoslav Oliynyk told a news conference.

“In the regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia volunteers will be recruited in order to replenish the ranks of the army and to know the exact number of people who would be ready if a special period were declared in the country. The volunteers will be provided with state-of-the-art uniforms, trained and given a military briefing in advance, so they will be ready in the event of mobilization. Besides, the [eastern] borders of the regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia will be reinforced with additional security posts,” Oliynyk said.

There are systems of communications and delivery of cargo, including construction materials, between the two regions, he said.

The governor said the two regions had inspected their bomb shelters and emergency alerting systems.
