EU Committee of Permanent Representatives agrees on extending sanctions against Russia

BRUSSELS - The EU Committee of Permanent Representatives reached an agreement at its session in Brussels on June 17 to extend economic sanctions against Russia and Crimea, an EU diplomatic source told Interfax.

The economic sanctions against Russia are expected to be extended by six months and against Crimea by one year, the source said.

The European Council on Foreign Relations is supposed to endorse the decision on extending the sanctions against Russia on June 22, he said.

As for sanctions against Crimea, the matter is so far not on the Council’s agenda, and a decision may be made routinely through a written procedure, he said.
