You're reading: EU foreign ministers will take no decisions on sanctions against Russia

Brussels - The discussion whether to take decision on imposing sanctions against Russia isn't on agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council's meeting in Luxembourg on Oct. 20.

A senior European diplomat said ahead of the meeting in Brussels that no decision over sanctions is to be taken.

However, the diplomat said that probably this issue would be raised by the individual foreign ministers.

But concerning the sanctions, the next step is to review the situation at the sitting of the Committee of the Permanent Representatives of the EU member states by the end of October, the diplomat said.

He reminded that since the sanctions against Russia are taken for the period of one year, today EU has no obligations on reviewing of the sanctions. The last discussion of the situation was held in the end of September.

You will definitely hear some ministers are talking about the sanctions, but nobody expects a decision upon them, the official stressed.
