You're reading: Foreign Ministry: Odessa tragedy proves separatist activities doomed to fail

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said that it sees the May 2 events in Odesa as actions aimed at undermining the Ukrainian statehood.

“The scale of the drama [in Odesa] is impressive. We see these events
as the continuation of subversive efforts against our state which put
the life and safety of our citizens at risk. We resolutely condemn the
actions aimed at breaking up Ukraine and destabilizing the situation in
the south of the country,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday,
May 3.

The events in Odesa show that the subversive separatist activity in
Ukraine is doomed to fail because not only the Ukrainians do not support
the so-called separatists, they also “resolutely reject any
encroachments on our national unity and resist terrorists and
militants,” the ministry said.

The foreign ministry extended its condolences to the families and loved ones over the tragedy in Odesa.
