The Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry hopes for the implementation of certain projects on restoring the operation of the transport system in Donbas as part of the provision of 500 million euros as loan guarantees from Germany, the ministry's press service has reported.

This issue was discussed at a meeting between ministry experts headed by Deputy Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Korniyenko and a German delegation.

He said that despite the destruction of many facilities of transport infrastructure in Donbas it was still possible to ensure the relatively stable transportation of goods and passengers mainly by rail and that today the main task in the region was to preserve this possibility in future.

Korniyenko reported that significant damage had been caused to rail and road bridges, some of which were temporarily restored, in particular, using pontoon structures, but a number of road facilities were completely destroyed, so the Infrastructure Ministry primarily focuses on getting restorative materials and technology as part of cooperation with Germany.

In addition, the Infrastructure Ministry is ready to provide a list of facilities whose restoration in the medium term could be financed under loan guarantees from Germany.

Consultations on the provision of financial assistance from Germany to rebuild transport infrastructure will continue in future.

The project will be coordinated through the Ukrainian Finance Ministry.

As reported, Germany, at the initiative of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, will allocate 500 million euros as loan guarantees to restore the infrastructure of Donbas.
