You're reading: Japan sends delegate to join OSCE SMM in Ukraine

TOKYO - The Japanese Foreign Ministry will send a delegate to join the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine, EFE agency reported on July 31.

The Japanese delegate is expected to join the mission on Aug. 3 and will work with the mission for a year.

This will be the first time that a delegate representing a country that is not a member of the OSCE has worked with the mission, however he has worked at the Japanese embassy in Ukraine.

He is to assist with analyzing the situation in the eastern Ukraine and with compiling reports.

According to the report, Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to dispatch the delegate during his visit to Kyiv in June.
