Japanese government to issue $5.8 million for program to restore social infrastructure in Donbas

The governments of Ukraine and Japan has begun the implementation of a joint project to restore important social infrastructure destroyed during the anti-terrorist peration in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, the ceremony of signing the project document between UNDP and the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Services of Ukraine, as well as the exchange of notes between UNDP and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine took place in Kyiv on Nov. 13.

“This project is aimed at restoring normal life on the areas liberated from invaders,” Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development Volodymyr Hroisman said before signing the document.

The Japanese government will issue $5.782 million for this joint project entitled “The restoration of social services and the establishment of peace in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.” The project is designed for 12 months and will be implemented in partnership with the relevant ministries, regional administrations, local communities and in close coordination with the UN agencies, donor communities, civil society organizations and local communities.
