You're reading: Kyiv denies delivering airstrikes upon Donetsk

The Ukrainian Air Force did not deliver airstrikes upon populated areas in Donbas, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a news conference on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

“The city of Donetsk, as well as the city of Luhansk and other cities and populated areas, have not been bombed by Ukrainian military aviation,” Lysenko said.

The Donetsk City Council press service reported on Wednesday morning that an airstrike had been delivered upon Donetsk in the early hours of the day.

Lysenko admitted that a Ukrainian plane did fly over Donetsk, but it was a communications aircraft.

“If we talk about the sound that a plane produced, which people heard, this was a plane indeed, but this was a communications plane. This plane ensures communication between the antiterrorist operation headquarters and combat units,” Lysenko said.

“This is a relay plane. It changes its flight route all the time so as not to be shot down, and therefore people could have heard it,” he said.
