You're reading: Kyiv promises not to use aviation against Russian aid convoy

Ukraine will not use its military aviation against the Russian humanitarian convoy that crossed into Ukraine on Aug. 22, said Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the head of the Ukrainian Security Service.

Asked by journalists in Kyiv on Aug. 22 whether Ukraine will use its military aircraft against the convoy, Nalyvaichenko said: “No, not against them, no.”

There have been reports that “the invasion directly from Russia through the Izvaryne checkpoint in the Donetsk region is being supervised by a Russian general,” said the Ukrainian security chief.

Earlier on Aug. 22 Nalyvaichenko called the crossing of the border by the Russian aid convoy “a Russian invasion.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia’s Ukraine-bound humanitarian aid convoy was starting to move in the direction of the city of Luhansk.
